Facebook recognizes your face even when you hide it!
Facebook has improved face recognizing algorithm
Facebook AI team has developed an algorithm that recognizes people in pictures. The algorithm is so sophisticated that it can recognize people even when they hide their faces in the photo. In such cases, Facebook artificial intelligence algorithm searches for other cues like body type, clothes, haircut etc…
“There are a lot of cues we use. People have characteristic aspects, even if you look at them from the back,” says Yann LeCun, head of artificial intelligence at Facebook. “For example, you can recognize Mark Zuckerberg very easily, because he always wears a gray T-shirt.”
Facebook AI experiment
Facebook AI lab pulled almost 40,000 public photos from Flickr and analyzed them with their newest AI algorithm and the results were fantastic. The accuracy of this neural network was 83%, which is huge result knowing that it also analyzed photos containing hidden faces of folks. Facebook presented this result in June 2015 at the Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition conference in Boston, Massachusetts.
Will Facebook Moments use this algorithm?
Of course, a sophisticated algorithm like this could be implemented in Facebook Moments app, which was also released in June 2015. However, it also raises privacy issues, especially when taking into account that Facebook Moments is already having troubles in Europe, because someone can be concealed even though is trying to stay hidden. On the other hand, this algorithm can help people by alerting them whenever a photo of themselves appears on the Web,
